OO.o 2.0, Windows XP SP2 Perhaps I'm missing something but that doesn't seem to work completely. I was trying to reformat a document created by cutting and pasting a web page into a document. When I paste, the images and some text are links. I chose Edit Links., selected all items and clicked Break Links. After a few moments, the list was empty and I closed the dialog. However, the images and text links remain active links.
Remove Hyperlinks with Word’s Context Menu Options. First, you can remove selected hyperlinks with Word’s context menu options. Select a link in a document with the cursor. Then you can right-click the link to open the context menu in the shot below. Select the Remove Hyperlink option there to convert the URL to plain text.
I saved the document and reopened it but they are still active links. One difference, however, is that Edit Links is grayed out. So, something happened but the links have not been completely broken. It's possible, of course, that this has been fixed and I just need to get an update. I was able to remove the links one image at a time by selecting the image (see below), right-clicking and going to Picture, then the Hyperlink tab, and removing the text.
That's a pain if there are a lot of images. It also took a while to figure out how to select an image when it is a hyperlink. You have to hold down the Alt key and click on it, otherwise it simply opens the linked document in your browser rather than becoming selected. Seems like having 'Select Image' in the right-click context menu for an image would be a nice thing.
You also need to change the Anchor from 'As Character' to any of the other three options before you can set the alignment of the image. Henry, your version is deprecated, you should upgrade to latest (2.3.1).
In the latter, the links behavior has been changed and to follow a link, you've to hit the CTRL key while clicking the link, it should fix your problem. But basically, your problem is that the pictures are links to somewhere on the web. The link to the pics have been broken but the links to the targets remains (like it should when you paste a text hyperlink). To remove them, select the pics and clear the formatting (either from the style toolbar drop-down list - first entry - or hit CTRL+SHIFT+Space bar). The 'Break Links' feature is another poorly-named element in OOo. First, it does not 'break' anything (i.e.
The feature is not used to render anything inoperative). Second, it does not act on hyperlinks, which is what most people will think of when they see the word 'links' in an Internet context. If I were king of OOo, it would be named something like 'Embed External Content' - which probably doesn't mean a lot to anyone So anyway, the Edit Break Links operation moves content that was stored in files external to the current document, and accessed through a link specifying the location of the external file, to be stored within (embedded in) the current document.
It has no effect whatever on any hyperlinks that may be associated with that content. First, upgrading to 2.3.1 did, indeed, solve the click-on-an-image-that's-a-hyperlink issue. That's much better, thanks. Second, you were both right, I misunderstood 'Break Links' to be referring to hyperlinks.
It is instead referring to the link between an OOWriter document and an included image. Breaking those links 'brings the picture into the document' instead of linking to some outside document. I agree that a there might be a better name for it but now that I understand what it is, I'm ok with 'break links'. As for removing hyperlinks, it's still not as easy as it might be, or at least, not with what I know now. I still need to right-click on each image, select Picture, and clear the Link to URL field to get rid of hyperlinks. Selecting an image and pressing ctrlshiftspace doesn't seem to have any effect on images (and it's grayed out of the menu when an image is selected). Also, it doesn't seem possible to select multiple images so changes need to be made one at a time.

Is that right? You're right, the clear formatting doesn't work. But you can open the Stylist (F11), click on the Frame icon, select your pic and double-click on the Graphics style in the Stylist to remove the hyperlink (I've tested that method this time). Thanks to add 'Solved' in your first post title ( edit button) if your issue has been fixed. NB: I've split the thread because the issue was different from the initial one.
